Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock were really on to something! In their 1988 top 40 hit single, this dynamic duo showed us that it takes two to make a thing go right! I have found this particularly true as it relates to fitness. My personal battle to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle is sometimes uphill. Working out has not always been my forte, and at times I can care less about counting calories. So, I’ve found it beneficial to find fun and engaging outlets to keep me focused on whole body training. One of my favs…partner workouts!
Now, I am NOT a certified trainer (yet…ya girl’s got goals!), but fortunately my workout partner is. This, however, is not a requirement. Grab your bestie and any number of resources (below are some to get you started). YouTube, Facebook, and even Instagram (work them hashtags…#partnerworkouts), as well as countless websites and magazine articles have various exercises and workouts that addresses different muscle groups. Now if you still aren’t convinced that partner workouts are “out of sight”, here are a few reasons:
1. You will push yourself further with a partner than alone or in a big group. Who doesn’t love a little competition? Studies show (yes, I looked it up!) people are more motivated when they have fewer competitors. When its just you and a partner, you are more likely to go harder in the workout than you would if you were by yourself or in a class of twenty people. The occasional “you got this” and “keep pushing” from your partner will allow you to push pass your personal best.
2. It keeps you accountable. With life schedules, my partner and I find it best to schedule workouts at the beginning of the week (3-4 workouts per week are ideal for major results). Making a commitment to workout with someone is beneficial because you are less likely to flake. Its one thing to cancel on yourself, but it’s entirely different to cancel on someone else. If your partner is anything like mine, he/she won’t soon let you forget!
3. Catch up on the “tea”. Partner workouts are the perfect way to spend quality time with your fitness friend. You can catch up on what’s happening in each of your lives and de-stress while sweating off much needed calories.
