My friends have this running joke in our circle: "Veronica doesn't let people come to her house". The sad part is that it’s true. Now, a big part of me wonders why everyone cares so much? Why do I have to have people over? What's so great about my house? I mean, do they think I have a money tree or Tupac stashed in my living room?
But there is a part of me that would love to have game nights, Netflix and chill with the Boo, or even brunch with the besties. So, I must ask myself the difficult question...how the HELL did I get here?
Now the mere fact that I am writing this blog is crazy because this is the side of Veronica that I don't discuss. (And if it makes it to the website know that I REALLY love you!) Moreover, it's a trait people don't look at favorably...as seen from the episodes of hoarders. But, I'm just going to admit it....I struggle with home organization (this is a nicer way to say, I’m a bit messy)! Whew! I said it! And being single for as long as I have doesn't help. Problem #1, I am completely fine with taking out 23 skirts to see which would be best and leaving them on my bed to the point that there is only a small corner on my queen size for me to lay in the same direction in the fetal position. This brings to mind problem #2: shopping has consumed my home. I needed that 8th white tee because they just aren’t the same after you wash them, even (no, especially) with bleach. This is kinda the same with other repeated items in my wardrobe. Like, really Veronica!?!?! How many black yoga pants or striped skirts (I really like stripes) do you really need?
So now that the truth is out, the healing can begin. In my quest to be able to have Bae stop by unannounced, I'm working on some things:
1. Purge! Everybody needs a friend like Tahlee. When she comes over (it's been a while since she has, and my house shows it), she is getting rid of shit. She runs around ranting, "You don't wear this? Get rid of it! What do you even use this for? Get rid of it? Not cute! Get rid of it! Develop a Tahlee mentality. If you aren't wearing it, or you have 20 others like it, if it doesn't move you, GET RID OF IT!
2. Stop shopping! Why are you in the mall or (my personal devil) online, when you have a small boutique with a stock room in your closet. Shop at home. Take your classic pieces (a denim shirt, a white tee, a floral skirt) and find ways to repurpose them in various looks. And know that LOFT will have that same 75% off sale next month...and the month after that, so stop it! You don’t need it! (Sidenote: Take a supportive shopping mate. Just recently, I went shopping with Tahlee. And every time I went to pick something up, she’d look at me with these squinty eyes, which meant, “You don’t need it. Put it back.” Thanks, bestie!)
3. Make time for your house. I am NEVER at home. No bueno! Make a schedule and stick to it. Choose a room/section of your house to clean, clean it til it's complete, and then move on to the next section.
Is anyone out there struggling with this problem? Please share your story. I’d love to hear from you!
