Alicia Keys, India Irie, Jill Scott, Solange... All of these beauties have been known to wear beautiful turbans on occassion, and slay every bit of it! It is certainly a look that has truly stood the test of time from as far back as our African ancestors. Worn as a style identifying your status and/or tribe, this trend has evolved across cultures, and has always had great meaning.
I have been rocking turbans for quite some time. I remember back in high school, I did not want to sweat out my fresh perm in dance class! I would give my hair a good wrap, tie it up and put a decorative African inspired scarf over top. I would wrap the scarf in a bun in the back, and this would preserve and protect my straight hair and maintain my flyness. Now, I wear my turbans for a multitude of reasons. When I am rushing out the door to drop my daughter off to school and can't lay hands on my hair... Turban. When I can't get an appointment to get my hair cut/colored... Turban. When I want to look different and super fly... Turban. When I just need to give my hair a break... Turban. I just love rocking new colors and prints to share my personal style, and I want to share it with you, too! Check out my video with one of my favorite ways to style my turban. All you need is about a yard of fabric or a scarf. So grab your pen and paper and learn this simple turban style!
