If beauty is your new year's resolution or if you typically don’t wear makeup at all, here are a few things that will get your new beauty routine off to a good start! Once you have these tips and tricks mastered, you can get fancy and add anything to it!
1. A good and consistent skin care routine:
Assess your skin to see what your skin type is. Once you have done that, choose skin care products that suite your skin type. Be sure to include a makeup remover, cleanser, toner, moisturizer, eye cream and an SPF. It may seem like a lot now, but you will thank me later! A good skincare regimen is the best start to a great makeup routine! As you may have also noticed from previous posts, I am a big advocate of exfoliating, so be sure to do so 2-3 times a week.
2. Get an even complexion:
If you are adding a makeup routine in the new year and you don't wear foundation, there are many options out there for you! On my off days, I have taken a liking to just wearing primer and a light powder. The powder that has stolen my heart for my no- makeup-makeup days is the Laura Mercier Candleglow Sheer Perfecting Powder. It REALLY gives a soft natural skin look, and is very comfortable on the skin. I even use a deeper shade to give my skin a bit of dimension. I just love how it subtly evens my skin tone while still showing my natural freckles through!
3. Bring the life back to your skin:
My face doesn't feel complete without a little (or a lot of) blush! It really puts the life back in your skin. Look to your lips for a good cue on what colors to choose for a natural look. If your natural lips have a pink hue, go with a more pink blush. If your natural lip tone is more peachy, go with a peachy blush. The same goes for if you are going more bold with your lip stick. Choose a shade of blush with a similar hue to your lipstick.
4. Take your eyes to new lengths:
When I am going for the no makeup-makeup look, and for my clients who are just getting into makeup, I suggest going bare on the eyes. If you want to even out the eyes, go for something like the Laura Mercier Eye Basics. This product is like a foundation for the eye. It evens out the skin and the natural clay ingredient helps to absorb oils so your lids don't get the dreaded crease. And whether you use an eyeshadow or Eye Basics, mascara is a total must! It brightens your eyes and gives you such a polished look.
5. Love your lips:
Last but not least, wear a lip. My great-grandmother would not leave the house without putting her favorite lipstick on! It just adds just a little extra something on that beautiful smile of yours! If you are not a lipstick girl, try a lip gloss or a lip stain. There is something for everyone in the world of makeup!
There you have it, guys! I want to hear from you! What are you adding or changing up in your beauty routine this year?
