Warning: The below images have great hair (it actually makes me want to grow some), but something is not entirely right about each of these makeup looks. Take a journey with me down "bad makeup" memory lane while I point out what went wrong with each look. Don't judge me... we ALL have been there!
1. Brows frame the face, so they NEED to be there.
Anyone who knows me knows I love a good full brow. I mean, even if I do nothing at all, I just love to see a nicely groomed brow… that’s there. Please reference the image above. Do you see my brows? Oh, probably not. This natural look would look so much more polished with just a subtle fill on the brows just to give my face a little definition.
Clearly this picture was taken before I got so deep into the beauty industry… clearly.
2. Box brows are NOT your friend!
This whole Instagram brow movement is nothing new. At least the shape is not. Back in the day (in my MAC days), this brow was called the MAC brow. All of my MAC coworkers all over Washington DC rocked this box brow, and we just KNEW we were doing it! Now, I like to see more of a natural brow that follows the natural brow shape. This way the brow frames the natural shape of the face… and not Suzy Q who looks nothing like you.
3. Silver does NOT belong on the entire eye from the lash line to the brow EVER… at least not on THIS brown girl!
O…M…Geeeeee! Why does almost every #tbt have a silver brow highlight?!? Seriously, WHYYYYYYY!!! Who told me that this was okay? Or maybe I should be asking what friends let me out of the house like this??? To my defense, I did NOT do my makeup on this pic. No one should ever have shimmer from lash to brow. And unless it’s an editorial look that is meant to break the rules, this brown girl (pointing to myself) should have never broken this rule! For a natural look, I like to use more matte shades through the crease and on the brow highlight. This was definitely a miss.
4. Be mindful of color placement… why did I think that pink was ok in my crease??? And on a smokey eye, too???
I guess every number is going to be an OMG moment. I am literally laughing out loud as I am writing this post! What was I thinking? In my defense, this was before I knew better. Before I knew that this just looks odd. If this were me now, I would either do a smokey eye, or do the pink on the lid and smoke it out on the outer corner… not layered on top of each other. Hilarious!
5. Be bold and step outside of the Nude box… but do it the right way!
As you can see, this is the only pic that has a bold lip. Did you catch that silver brow highlight in this pic, too? Ha! This was a super risky look. I now either do a smokey eye OR a bold lip. Not both at the same... damn... time.
At the end of the day, makeup is supposed to be fun. I hope you guys had a good laugh at my expense! I have truly come a long way with regards to my makeup application! What makeup mistakes have you made in the past?
P.S. - Here is a redemption pic of myself. Ha!
