“There's nothing better than live music. It's raw energy, and raw energy feeds the soul.” -Dhani Jones
Summer 2016 is officially here, Yay! So that means several things are about to go down in the DMV; 1)humidity is going to have its way with my hair, 2) Happy Hour will be like every day of the week and 3) My mother is coming to town! Mother coming to town is the most significant point because that means I have to keep her entertained, the ENTIRE two weeks, yikes! So I have decided this will be a music themed visit!
DC is a bustling city with so much to see and do. Since moving here in 2007, there are three things I can always count on any day: 1) brunch 2) happy hour and 3) live music. Brunch and happy hour I can understand, but the live music scene caught me by surprise! I have had the opportunity to witness the creative genius of many artists, and each time it reignites my love for live music. For me it’s the energy from the crowd, the sound of the instruments up close and personal, the passion of the artist coming through the mic and a “spirited” beverage in hand to make the experience euphoric. So when mother comes into town, I’m dragging here to every live music experience in the DC metro area, Baltimore included. Problem solved!
A couple of nights ago, I came across the band “The Fix”. They perform many places, but on Thursday evenings you can catch them at Bar7 serving up acoustic sounds from their instruments and soulful vocals. They give you a mix of R&B, Neo Soul and being that we are in DC, classic DC “Go-go”. Check them out IG:@wethefix, https://twitter.com/wearethefix , FB:The FIX.
Another reason I love live music is you can hear the artist actual voice, their actual God-given talent. It’s not distorted or perfected with sound effects and what not, like soooooo many artists these days. Sheesh!
The nice thing about the DMV is that you will find a lot of places that offer live music. Here are a few I frequent:
- The Hamilton
- Howard Theatre
- Takoma Station
- The Filmore
- The Park
- 930 Club
- Society Lounge –Silver Spring
- Bukom Café- Reggae
- Bethesda Blues &Jazz Supper Club
So where can I go for live music in your city? Who are some favorite bands I should follow? Let me know. I may just be in an area near you!
Enjoy the Journey,
