The birds are chirping, flowers are in full bloom, the days are sunny, and the nights are long. It’s summertime. Summer brings tons of great things to do, especially “Summertime Chi” (summers in Chicago…and I dare someone to convince me otherwise). Festivals galore, barbeques, events by the lakefront, day parties…which means people, with high libidos (increased by sunlight…look it up, if you don’t believe me) and fewer clothing, come out of hibernation ready to turn up! This glorious season marks another common phenomena, UN-cuffing season.
Oh, cuffing season! You know, the moment the first leaf hits the ground and the weather requires a jacket with lining. When the world settles in for a long winter, and (like clock work) people couple up. But somewhere around Memorial Day, there’s an “itch”. The cuffs come off, and casual relationships that were hot and heavy during the winter months come to an end.
Now, sunny-siders, I am not trying to spread negative relationship juju. I am #TeamUs, for all relationships that are willing and wanting to thrive through every season. However, un-cuffing WILL happen to somebody, so let’s address some do’s and don’ts that will quickly get us through this sometimes dreadful season and on to a promising summer.
Don’t trip. When the text messages become brief, and the dates far, few, and in between, take that as your notice of eviction and keep on stepping. If you are the “un-cuffer”, don’t drag it out by faking an illness for 2 months or staging a trip to Croatia. Be direct…people like that.
Don’t linger. Sticking around to make sure a break-off is necessary is counter-productive from both ends. It can be confusing and even hurtful to keep things as they were, even to a small extent. So, make a clean break…the door should be locked and not revolving.
Do you. Whether you are broken or you did the breaking (or maybe it was mutual), summer is the perfect season for a fresh start!! Doll up, get out, enjoy, have fun, meet people! It’s the summertime for goodness sake!! You might meet someone new, you might not, but the unforgettable moments summer brings only come once a year…so, soak it all in!
Happy Summer, Sunnies!!
What are your un-cuffing stories? Please share, I’d love to hear!!
