“Ummm, I want to return this foundation. It didn’t last on me.” When I used to work at the cosmetic counter, this was one of the most common reasons clients returned foundation. I get it! You want your foundation to stay AND slay! You may be thinking, ‘It MUST be the foundation!’ Let me give you the 3 reasons your foundation probably isn’t lasting.
1. Are You Using a Primer? Many people say they want the least amount of steps and want a very easy application. Some people opt to go with a BB or CC cream that claim to have a built in primer. Even when items say there is a built in primer, a primer is STILL necessary. Let’s talk about what a primer does: (a) it smooths over texture prior to makeup application, (b) it gives the makeup something to adhere to, (c) it creates a barrier between your skin and the makeup, and (d) it helps with the longevity of the wear of the foundation. If a product has a “primer” built in, none of these core benefits will be achieved. When primers just came about, there was only 1 formula. Now, most brands have primers that also address specific skin concerns. Be sure to get the best formula for your personal skin needs.
2. Are You Selecting a Foundation For Your Personal Skin Type? I love Blogs, Instagram and YouTube for all of the creativity and exposure that it gives to beauty brands. I love the way all social outlets encourage their readers/viewers to try products and play in the beauty world. These outlets give great suggestions, but are by no means “bible”. If you see a foundation that seems like you want to try, go online and check it out. You may find that this particular foundation works best for dry skin and you have an oily skin type… just as an example. You can also go to the store where it’s sold and grab a sample and try it out at home for a couple of days. This typically gives you a good idea if the foundation works for your skin type and the desired finish that you want.
