Let me start this post by saying Terrance (the love of my life and fiancé) LOVES fragrance! This is actually an understatement. He wakes up, sprays a few fragrances to choose his scent for the day, takes a shower and puts on his fragrance of choice. Throughout the day, he sprays samples that he is curious about, works out, takes a shower and puts more fragrance on before bed. He has full bottles and sample fragrances that he has split with friends through decants, and even has a group where he discusses fragrance. We have even watched documentaries on how fragrance is made, selected and marketed to the masses. Needless to say, for EVERY gift opportunity he at least gets 1 fragrance. It’s to the point where I am thinking “he has every fragrance that I like… what other options do I have?!?”
He has mentioned on multiple occasions that he would love to experience making his own fragrance. Anytime he mentions something cool that I would be interested in too, I head straight to Google. For his birthday this year, I looked to see if there was a fragrance house in Chicago that would allow us this experience. Lo and behold, I found the perfect place! The Aroma Workshop is the cutest little shop that allows you to have a hands on experience in making your own fragrance and become your own perfumer! You book an appointment through their online booking service and come about 10 min before your appointment to familiarize yourself with the shop. During your appointment, you have many different scents to choose from. They have florals, flavors, citrus/fresh and nature/woody scents, so there is something for everyone! We were assisted in our experience by Rabia, who is extremely knowledgeable and knows how to blend the right proportions of all of our scent selections!!!
I chose the absolute perfect blend of fragrances and wear it every chance I get. My perfume was a blend of Amaryllis (floral), Fling (floral), Thymewarp (citrus/fresh), and Jade (nature/woody). I just about picked my scents out very quickly. Terrance, on the other hand, was a bit more selective because of how much knowledge he has from across the years. He selected White Tea (floral), Magenta (flavor), Amber (nature/woody), Big Sur (blend of Sandalwood, Amber, Oak Moss and Cedar which are all nature/woody), Oud (nature/woody) and Patouli (nature/woody). Once we selected all of the scents that we liked, Rabia worked her magic and mixed and blended each one to the perfect amount in a tiny vial. I was so very impressed with the process that she took with her blending method, too! She had a note pad that documented down to the number of drops that she added for each fragrance. Once she blended them perfectly, she had us sample the scents outside so that we can have a fresh palette to ensure we liked our personal blend. When we returned, she gave us options of bottle designs and sprayers that fit our preferences. She then took her notes along with a calculator and filled our bottles perfectly! We even named our fragrances for her to list in the stores system in case we would like to purchase a refill in the future. My fragrance is called Jaded because of the Jade note and Terrance went with the name Hyde Park.
This was such an awesome experience that I am thinking of having my bachelorette party here! They even do birthdays, celebrations, weddings on location, or for just a fun night out! I hope you get a chance to experience Aroma Workshop Chicago! It was certainly an experience that is unforgettable and a hard one to top for Father's Day!
